Shake off your prejudice and start looking for your tow bar; the chicest (and easiest) way to be independent comes in the form of the good, old-fashioned caravan.
Always strong on the conceptual front, (a house on wheels that you can take anywhere? Keep changing the view? Genius.) it was let down badly by unchic design. Now, finally, the cool caravan has arrived. And you can hire it for a weekend.
The T@B is a cleverly designed 2 berth caravan, with ample seating around a good sized table. At night the whole thing converts into a huge king size bed. Compact though it is, there is also a sink, 2 burner cooker, a fridge and lots of cupboard space.
The importers of the caravans, Andrew and Julia Holder, fell in love with the German machines. As well now offering them for sale, they also offer them for rent. I never thought of myself as a caravaner says Andrew but they are the perfect solution if you are a keen walker or surfer. They are also really light so even the tiniest car can tow them.
The couple can also recommend quiet, picturesque sites for you to bed down in your T@B for as little as 5 per night. The caravans cost from 80 per weekend, with weekly hire from 175 (low season). To purchase a mid range specification model costs 7,200, plus delivery anywhere outside the South of England. The price includes window and mosquito blinds, integrated fridge and spare wheel. Thanks! After reading your story, I tried one of those caravans and they are a cool way to get around. Stylish and cheap.
