Planning permissions relaxed

Approval’s been given for more relaxed planning permissions for wind farms and other renewable energy projects.

The government’s plan to increase renewable energy was under threat because of difficulties in gaining planning permission at the moment it takes nearly 1 year for the average wind farm planning application to be accepted.

Now the government has given guidelines to local authorities to make planning permission easier to obtain. This will be applicable to small and bigger development involving solar panels, biomass heating and small and large- scale wind farms.

The British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) is delighted by the decision, which will speed up the process to approve the 1000 turbines still needing consent.
