Given the number of website already posting plans for making solar heat collectors using all kinds of plastic piping; no reason this would not work.
I’m about to experiment with MTD. My idea is to use twin wall polycarbonate sheet. In other words, greenhouse glazing.
The idea is, paint the bottom side black (I’ve painted plastic before… not terribly easy but can be done), make a manifold for the top (copper pipe with 1/16″ holes drilled for each chamber of the polycarbonate sheet, and then use a cut PVC pipe to catch the warm water on the bottom.
What I’m looking for is something simple and easy made out of maintenance free materials.
My concerns are UV absorbtion and poor thermal conduction of the polycarbonate.
Any opinions before I start to tinker?
