Don’t ever half-tap a battery. It will unbalance the system and you will end up with some bad batteries over time.. (without going into a bunch of detail)
I suggest using a 24/12 volt converter that matches your amperage needs. You won’t regret it..
Of course, Never gave that a thought. I have a few of those around the shop that I have removed from construction equipment. Thank you for your quick response.

What I would like to know is that on a 24V battery bank, can I draw 12V off the batteries with out messing up the charging of the system?
but remember to calculate the loss you will have converting down to 12 volts from the 24 volts. 24 volts inverters have really dropped in price. Plus they are much more efficient. I have ordered from Wholesalesolar.com and have priced some from E-bay. Well worth the investment to keep down the loss and gain much more efficiency.
