Thanks for all the replies.

It seems that the perfect wood burner is a complex beast for something that is basically a safe place to keep fire. If one lists all the things a wood burner might do, does such a creature exist?

Cooking

Room heating

Baking

Fuel production

Charcoal production

Hot water

and probably much more
