Hi guys, I am getting ready to leave the East Coast and venture out west to set up my homestead. These are the states I am considering settling in: New Mexico, Arizona, Oregon, Washington and Alaska. Any of you already living off -grid in these states? If so, can you share your biggest challenges and biggest joys?

I researched each state (and visited 4 out of 5)  and, to an extent, I am aware of the challenges each state comes with, especially Alaska :-). But, I am looking for your real-life, subjective experience as those are unique. Not sure if any of you would be open to me visiting you on my way across country – I am happy to trade labor or pay $$ in exchange for being able to put up a tent for a night or two. Curious to see your solar/water/food production setups and compare to my own blueprints.

Anything you would like to share is much appreciated!

Hey green life, are you trying to live with other people or build it alone?

Hey, I am open to both. Most likely, I will purchase a land with a structure already on it, and gradually improve. It looks like I will be looking in New Mexico and southern Colorado, as well as Arizona at the end of April through May (closing on the sale of my house here in NC on 4/21 – finally!). How about you? Are you already homesteading or looking to?
